Skytrax European Airline of the year 2023, Turkish Airlines has been given the all clear to operate flights from Turkey, into Australia in 2024.
The first city serviced will be Melbourne, followed soon after by Sydney and potentially other Australian capital cities pending demand and authority.

Airline Alliances
As a Star Alliance carrier, this opens up new opportunities for Australian travellers to fly to Europe whilst boosting their Star Alliance frequent flyer points (or eventually using them).
There is rumours that Turkish Airlines may connect with Regional Express ‘Rex’ Airlines to reach domestic and regional centres offering further options to Australian travellers.
Gateway City: Istanbul
Turkish Airlines gateway city, Istanbul offers a shorter stopover option than London or Paris and travellers can then connect to other flights within regional Europe including Naples, Italy and Oslo, Norway offering a viable alternative hub city with an opportunity to include Turkey as part of the destination. From Istanbul to Australia, there may be a secondary stopover point for refuelling which is likely to be Singapore or Bangkok.

Cruising
Istanbul is also a popular cruising port, so this opens up the cruising market tremendously with options to suit all travellers including Mediterranean Ocean cruises from budget to Ultra luxury and river cruises.
Many cruises from Istanbul head along the Aegean Sea to visit the Islands of Greece, plus there are river cruises that start in Istanbul too.
Aircraft Types
Turkish Airlines will likely use a Boeing 777 or possibly an Airbus A350 on this route, from Turkey to Australia, depending upon demand, though as it’s not yet bookable in the reservation system, this is purely speculation.
How Much is Turkish Airlines between Europe and Australia?
As for the cost of flights, that is still an unknown, but with more airlines entering the Australian market, including Turkish Airlines, you can only hope that more seats = cheaper fares for both Economy and Business/First Class customers.
As soon as fares are released and seat availability is bookable, we’ll let you know. In the meantime, sign up below to be first to hear about useful travel updates and worthwhile travel deals including new routes, airlines and new fares with Turkish Airlines.
